    Welcome to Foundation

In Foundation the children learn through a structured play environment, which aims to allow all children to assess the seven areas of learning.  These areas are -

    • Communication and Language
    • Physical Development
    • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
    • Literacy
    • Mathematics
    • Understanding of the World
    • Expressive Arts and Design

The children are encouraged to be responsible for their own learning, helping to plan activities that they would like to do.

Our children have the opportunity to learn in a safe, secure, friendly environment that they are encouraged to take pride in.
We have a large indoor and outdoor area, which the children have constant access to.

We hope that when children leave the Foundation Stage to move to Year One, they are confident, happy individuals, who have the necessary skills to access all areas of learning.

Teaching The Children To Learn To Read

In Foundation and KS1, we teach phonics daily using ideas and resources from a variety of programmes, including Letters and Sounds, Read Write Inc (RWI) and Jolly Phonics. We follow the progression in teaching that is set out in RWI and we teach a range of skills to help our children learn to read, such as, grapheme and phoneme correspondence and oral segmenting and blending. As the children progress, we teach them how to use their phonics knowledge to spell as well as read, explicitly teaching specific spelling rules. Alongside using phonics to decode, we teach the children how to develop their comprehension skills through the use of several different reading schemes, Oxford Reading Tree, Phonics Bug, Project X and Fireflies.

    Foundation Latest News

The Foundation children have been learning the story of Stickman by Julia Donaldson. To help the children remember and retell the story, we shortened the book and added actions to help us remember the key parts of the story. Here is a video of the children retelling their shortened version of Stickman.

    Police Visit

Foundation were very lucky to have a surprise visit from some kind Police Officers. We had lots of fun sitting in the police car, listening to the sirens and learning about the equipment that Police Officers use. We were also very lucky to be able to talk to someone at the Police Control Centre through one of the officer’s radio!

    Settling in to Foundation

This week in Foundation the children have been learning how to help each other and learn together. We have had lots of different activities out to explore and have enjoyed learning everyone’s names and making friends.
